Organizing

triangleThe CWA Triangle symbolizes the three major programs - and pillars - of the union. None can stand alone. If any one side of our triangle is weak, it will limit the capacity of our union to effectively represent our members because our bargaining power would have been diminished. It is therefore in our interest to see that all sides of the CWA triangle is strong and vibrant.

In today's and political and economic climate, workers need to join together if they are to preserver their standard of living. Instead of one person telling management that wages should be fair, health and safety regulations should be followed and employees deserve good health care benefits, a union helps you speak together in one voice. That chorus of voices has more power than one lone voice. A union is the vehicle that workers can use to help bring the chorus together. Organizing therefore is a major factor that increases the workers bargaining power. Workers need to realize the connection that exits between organizing and the economic well being of themselves and their families. Organizing cannot be viewed as a separate activity. Workers should keep in mind that their bargaining power decreases as the number of unorganized workers increases.

Winning Elections assures the union and employees of their legal right to enter into negotiations with their employer that's all. CWA's organizing goal is to build a strong organization to better enable employees to negotiate good contracts that will enable workers to increase their standard of living and quality of life.

Representation

wagesMost if not all of our members came to join our union solely for better representation at the workplace. The fact is that the day to day contract administration and collective bargaining process is the primary purpose of our union and constitutes the base of our triangle. However if we are going to  accomplish our primary mission then it is vital that the other two sides of the triangle are not neglected because effective representation at the workplace depends heavily on our ability to increase our power through organizing and political action.

Committee On Political Education ( COPE )
